By the decision of Estonian Government, the Cultural Prize of the Republic of Estonia was ascribed to Hellar Grabbi, Jaan Rääts and Jaan Tooming for a long-time activity and outstanding creative achievements.
Hellar Grabbi is the preserver of the continuity of the Republic of Estonia in the United States during the time Estonia was occupied. He has contributed to the Estonian literature and culture both in exile and after the restoration of independence. He has translated and edited Estonian literature, a long-time editor of the ”Mana” and was one of the leading figures in founding the political movements ”Eesti Kodanike Liit” (Union of the Estonian Citizens) and ”Parem Eesti” (Better Estonia).
