75 years ago, the Second World War ended on European soil. We will discuss the lessons of the post-war world order, how to prevent international crimes in the future and protect peace, and what the responsibility of the UN Security Council is. We will also address what we can learn from the past to help respond to the current global COVID-19 crisis.
The meeting was one of the signature events of Estonia’s presidency of the Security Council were nearly 50 foreign ministers from across the world participated.
Briefers:
High Representative of the European Union Josep Borrell Fontelles,
UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo,
Professor of Yale University Timothy Snyder. The meeting is moderated by Foreign Minister of Estonia Urmas Reinsalu.
After statements from the briefers, the floor was given to Council members, followed by interventions from other UN member states.
The event was powered by Hybridity, a COVID-19 safe virtual event platform developed in Estonia. More information: https://globalvirtualsolutions.eu/
