Statement delivered by H.E. Mr. Rein Tammsaar, Permanent Representative of Estonia on behalf of Nordic and Baltic countries

Mr Chair,
I have the honour to deliver this statement on behalf of the Nordic and Baltic countries.
We would like to welcome the Special Rapporteur in the 3rd Committee and reaffirm our support for her mandate.
The Nordic and Baltic countries strongly condemn all forms of violence against all women and girls, including sexual and gender-based violence and violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
We remain deeply concerned about the deteriorating situation of women and girls across the globe, including LGBTIQ+ persons, aggravated by wars, armed conflicts, various crises, climate change and other factors.
As committed members of the Group of Friends for the elimination of violence against women and girls, we underline the critical importance of involving men and boys in achieving gender equality and countering violence against women and girls.
States have the obligation to ensure that women and girls can enjoy a life free from violence.
