“The pandemic has demonstrated the importance of technology and has radically changed jobs, education, communication and services,” President Kersti Kaljulaid stated today at the summit-level debate of the UN Security Council on maintenance of international peace and security, themed global governance post Covid-19.
“Because of these changes, it is important to seize the opportunity to create better rules for participation in the global service market. This is especially important for people who have found it difficult to participate in the job market so far, but who can work online globally. For this, we need a model of global governance that also takes into account cyber security, “said President Kaljulaid.
The Estonian Head of State stressed that Estonia supports Secretary General Guterres’ call for global ceasefire and calls everybody to support it by the end of the year. President Kaljulaid addressed the UN Security Council from Häädemeeste County today, demonstrating as well the new possibilities for remote work.
The aim of todays’ UN Security Council summit-level debate was to draw attention to new threats to security and to look towards the post-COVID global governance. The meeting was chaired by the President of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou.
