TALLINN, Aug 01, BNS – Sixty-one students from 13 countries will next week begin studies under two five-month programs at the Baltic Defense College based in Estonia‘s second-largest city of Tartu.
Two students from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania each, and one from Poland, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia each were enrolled for the higher command studies course.
The course for land forces will be attended by 14 students from each of the Baltic states, two from Ukraine, and one from Georgia, Montenegro, Armenia and Azerbaijan each, spokespeople for the Defense Ministry said.
Both courses start on Aug. 4 and terminate on Dec. 12.
The higher command studies course concentrates on examining the changes in the security environment and providing a broad understanding of the leadership and management of defense transformation programs.
Students will get a grasp of flexible, dynamic and contemporary development of defense forces and learn to steer such transformation. The higher command studies course is designed for lieutenant colonels and colonels and civil servants of equal rank.
The five-month land forces staff course is meant for officers at tactical battalion and brigade level and designed to provide them with knowledge state-run military schools are at present not capable of giving.
