TALLINN, Aug 06, BNS – A festive line-up of all the 18 Estonian and nine foreign teams in Tallinn’s St George’s Night Park opened the Erna Retk 2008 military-athletic competition on Wednesday morning.
“As the challenges of the Erna Retk trek have increased so the capability of ourselves and our friends to cope with them has grown as well,” Defense Minister Jaak Aaviksoo said. “It is good we meet at such peaceful trials of strength.”
There are 27 teams taking part in the 15th edition of the military-athletic competition, including nine foreign teams from seven countries — Lithuania, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Germany, the United States and Latvia.
The umpires of the competition are blue berets from Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark and the chief umpire is from the United States. Oservers from the Netherlands and China are also present.
The public can watch the landing on the Salmistu beach in Kolga Bay at 4:30pm on Wednesday.
